Brian,

I have found that cold, hard facts are always the best way to express truth because they are truth by definition.

That's a "modern, 21st-century mindset" I hear talking. Who are we to judge the literary methods of "truth-telling" of a distant culture from a distant past?

Mike Beidler´s last blog post.."Evolutionary Creation: A Christian Approach to Evolution" — An Interaction, Part 4

I have found that cold, hard facts are always the best way to express truth because they are truth by definition. Why would typology be more powerful in any realm, especially the religious realm. The Biblical God can be quite brutally honest at times and then at others He allows 'literary license' to propagate his word? If God is all about us being factual and truthful, hard to understand why He would allow this to be abandoned in some books in the Bible. I submit the ancients would accept Gods word without the literary devices intimated in your comments. Truth is the straightest line to understanding and anything that deviates from it causes confusion.

I have made this statement to you many times, Stephen, but I'll repeat it here for others: we must get rid of the notion that "myth" means "lie". A myth can be true, or rather the meaning behind the myth can be true. In other words, something doesn't have to be cold, hard facts to express truth.

And in the realm of religion and spiritual things isn't typology much more powerful?

I read what I can get my hands on :) After being exposed to his scholarship with a presentation on the Wheaton website, I bought his NIV commentary on Genesis. I can't wait to read Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament: Introducing the Conceptual World of the Hebrew Bible. I haven't met him, although I did carry on a short email correspondence a few years ago.

Thanks for dropping by!
